Is there a way to check the status after an sql update besides doing a select
statement to see if the fields were actually changed?

Thanks.

Right after I opened this to the forum I found the answer. I am using
dbFailOnError.

If, however, there is something else that I should be using, please let me
know.
Thanks.

Examine the RecordsAffected:

Dim db As DAO.Database
Set db = CurrentDb()
db.Execute strSql, dbFailOnError
MsgBox db.RecordsAffected & " reccord(s) affected."
