Chemistry data analysis and bar chart- LEGEND help

Prabha

May i have your patience in exactly understanding what i wish to do
with my excel barchart.
I have barcharts (standard type) which is stacked column and hence
compares the contribution of each value to a total across categories.
I have several treatment samples, and thereby, i make four bar charts
aligned together with an overlap 100 and gap width 0. This type of 4
more in the same graph. Hence in a total 16 bars in one graph (4x4
=16). However, further to complicate i need to change the pattern to
show them as different different treatment samples. Hence i used
"Format datapoint" to adjust the pattern.
After doing all what i want: now i am unable to give all these
different patterns into my legend as it a STACKED COLUMN graph type.
Please help urgently or reply to (e-mail address removed).
Thanks.

Prabh,

Since you have four series, you will have only four legend entries. That is
how category charts (which most are) are organized. I'll presume you have
your series in four columns, and the data points go down for 4 rows, and it
looks like this:

S1P1 S2P1 etc.
S1P2 S2P2
S1P3 S2P3
S1P4 S2P4

where "S1P1" refers to series 1, point 1, etc. SInce there are four
columns, there are four series, hence four legend entries.

You need to arrange the table from which you chart like this:

S1P1 S2P1 etc.
S1P2 S2P2
S1P3 S2P3
S1P4 S2P4

If this table looks convoluted, you need to set your newsreader to use a
non-proportional font, like Courier. Now there are 16 columns, hence 16
series, etc.

In order to use data from the original table layout, you can make a table of
links (=B2, = C3, etc.), laid out as above, to the original table.
