Every time I paste something the clipboard appears on the spreadsheet. It covers cells and I can't make it go away. I try hitting escape but it just stays there, righ in my way! any way to tell excel not to show this at all?

I believe you're referring to the Pate Options button that looks like a
'little' clipboard, right? If so, it will go away as soon as you enter
something into another cell. If you seriously want to do away with it
altogether go to Excel> Preferences> Edit & clear the check on "Show Paste
Options smart buttons".
