Closing PowerPoint 2003 creates an error report

P

PWebley

When I close any PowerPoint 2003 file I get an error report (with the usual
MS message about reporting the error and restarting the application). I've
tried renaming the .pcb file as I thought it might be a settings issue and
I've also adjusted the hardware acceleration, but neither options has
resolved the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Paul,

I guess the other question si have you installed Service pack 1? Also, do
you have a default printer installed locally? Or some of the options here:

PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct

Try renaming all your PPA files (ppt add-ins) to PPX and see if you get the
error then.

Glen,

Thanks for your response. I'm running on O2K3 SP1. The only printers
connected are LAN printers. Unfortunately the link didn't help as we are
running Acrobat 7 and Symantec AntiVirus v8.1.1.319. If you have any more
ideas to try they will be greatly received.

I know this sounds totally unrelated, but if you upgrade to Adobe 7.1 you
might see the problem improve.

(Oh, and just so you know, if you are running full up Acrobat you do have
the Adobe PDF add-in installed, you just can't see it.)

Hi,

Do you have Windows XP Service pack two, or Visual Studio installed? I saw
something like this once before. In that case, I think I repaired Windows
and then Office? Does PowerPoint do this in Safe Mode? Hold down the
<Control> key while you click the PowerPoint icon to start it.

the msvbvm60.dll is a Visual Basic DLL file. I think, now that you've

Hi Paul,

It sounds like you might be running into a problem between a conflict and
at least one bluetooth add-in and PowerPoint.

For example, the "Send to Bluetooth" addin was created by BROADCOM®, Inc.
and distributed by various vendors. BROADCOM®, Inc. informed Microsoft
that they have a solution available for the problem you reported. To
address this problem you need to install Bluetooth 1.4.3.4 SP3. To locate
a local vendor, please contact BROADCOM®, Inc.

Additional Information:
* Microsoft did not create, nor does it provide technical support for
BlueTooth software.
* If you have trouble installing the fix or the problem you reported
persists, please contact BROADCOM®, Inc. and alert them of the problem.

I have finally managed to resolve this issue. It was a translation package
called Systran that was causing PPT to crash. It appears that when we
upgraded from Office 2000 to 2003 Systran didn't like it. If Systran was
uninstalled and then re-installed PPT no longer produces the error. Thanks to
all for you help.

I wouldn't delete them, since you don't know which of them, if any, is at fault.

If they're .PPA addins, you can quit PPT, rename the .PPA file to e.g. .PPB, then
restart PPT to test.

You might want to post the list here.

If you can identify the addins and still have the installer software, try
uninstalling then reinstalling them, particularly if you had them installed in an
earlier version of PPT then upgraded to 2003. Sometimes the upgrade process doesn't
quite work with addins.

Does this help?
Regards
Paul

:

Are you getting any kind of error message? Any info in the "send
report"
dialog?

Echo,

Thanks for this, unfortunately there are no Add-ins, so no .PPA
files
exist.
Any other help will be greatly received.

Regards

Paul

:

Try renaming all your PPA files (ppt add-ins) to PPX and see if
you
get
the
error then.

When I close any PowerPoint 2003 file I get an error report
(with
the
usual
MS message about reporting the error and restarting the
application).
I've
tried renaming the .pcb file as I thought it might be a
settings
issue
and
I've also adjusted the hardware acceleration, but neither
options
has
resolved the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Paul
