Is there a way to collaborate using Microsoft Outlook 2003 and Project 2003
WITHOUT having to use Project Server or any other Server product.

My scenario is as follows:

10 resources, all remote, no central server. All have MS Office 2003 Pro
and MS Project 2003.

It appears Microsoft is forgetting about us little organizations who would
like a means to manage projects centrally without having to purchase a
server and server products.

All of my resources have high speed internet connections. Prior versions of
Project didn't require a server product to collaborate on a project.

Would saving the .mpp file on a web site where others have access to it
work?

Can you elaborate a bit more about what you mean by "collaboration"? A
whole host of of questions come to mind. Depending on your expectations
and anticipations (they are different), an awful lot of collaboration
can be done without Project server.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I agree that Microsoft is too focused on big business and not the little guy. There is an add-in for Outlook, but that's probably not what you need. Microsoft says that they'll discontinue support for this particular feature for this feature going forward, but it is available as of now. The link is:

Project 2003 Workgroup Message Handler
The Workgroup Message Handler is a collaboration tool that lets a project manager communicate with the resources assigned to tasks by using e-mail.

Good luck

By Collaboration I mean, The project manager of a
specific project would like to be able to not only assign
tasks, but the resources would also need to be able to
show status and update status to complete or send
messages with task information, inquiries, etc.

Is there a list of "collaboration" functions without
project server? Where could I find such a list?

Per this
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...15-1090-452c-8eba-4025b8976c18&displaylang=en,
you have the ability to add the "Workgroup Message Handler" into 2003,
but it's pretty clear this last version that Microsoft plans to support
this.

If the resources know how to use Project (and sometimes Resources
don't), then by organising the mpp files into logical groups of
individual files, one resource file, collecting them into master
projects ... each Resource updates the relevant project file and the PM
works with the conslidations. I'm suggesting breaking them up simply to
enable people to work on different files at the same time. This
requires shared files on a file server, of course.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
