Collate box always checked in printer dialogue

I'm running Office 2000 SP3 on win98SE.

My printer doesn't like multiple copies being sent to it when the
"collate" check box is ticked (which is seemingly set by default).

However, printing is fine if this "collate" box in UN-CHECKED. But
next time I come to print something, the box has re-checked itself.

The main printer properties do not have any reference to collate and I
have upgraded to the latest printer driver.

So, how can I set this "collate" check box to be UN-CHECKED by
default?

BTW, office apps are the only ones that set this collate check box to
"on" by default, so I know it's an Office 2000 issue (office 95 was
fine).
