complete through, how calculated on summary bar

Larry Serpa

I can't seem to find the definition, nor how it is calculated in MS Project
2003.

Thanks ahead of time

Do you mean how the actual duration of a summary task that's in progress is
calculated? ...

Sums the Scheduled Durations of the subtasks.
Sums the Actual Durations of the subtasks.
Divides AD/SD to derive an effective % Complete for the group.
Subtracts that from 100 to derive an effective % Remaining for the group.
Multiplies % Remaining * Summary Duration to compute Summary Remaining
Duration
Subtracks SRD from Summary Duration to compute effective Summary Actual
Duration
Adds that to Summary Start date to get effective Completed Through date.

Hi Steve,

Complete Through is a value used to draw the "black" progress line in a
standard Gantt Chart.
See Bar Styles.
I'm not sure it is intrerpreted the same way as Actual Duration.

For some reason I thought the question was about how progress was computed
for summary tasks. If it's for performance tasks he's asking, the Complete
Through date would simply be the Start Date plus the Actual Duration not
including non-working time would it not, same as the ProjDateAdd() function?

Hi Steve and all,

Possibly but I don't know.
Since you cannot produce the date value of Complete Through I haven't done
any tests on it.
Greetings,
