What do you mean by the term "Actual % Complete?" Project has 3 different
completion percentages it can track and fields for each: % Complete
referring to duration time past, % Work Complete referring to man-hours of
work performed, and Physical % Complete which refers to the creation of the
deliverable itself.
We are painting a room. The painter will take from Mon 8am to Fri 5pm to do
the the entire task from start to finish. Duration is 40 hours. He will
spend 1 hour on Mon doing a 1st primer coat, an hour on Tues doing a 2nd
primer coat, an hour Wed doing a 1st colour coat, and hour Thur doing a 2nd
colour coat, and all day Friday doing the finish work - total work required
= 12 man-hours. It's now Thur at 5pm and work has been performed according
to that schedule but because of a problem only half of the walls are done.
As of this moment 32 hours of the total 40 hours of duration have passed ...
% Complete = 32/40 = 80%. 4 man-hours of the total 12 required have been
worked ... % Work Complete = 4/12 = 33%. 2 walls out the total of 4 have
been completed ... Physical % Complete = 2walls/4walls = 50% (simplifying
the discussion by disregarding the finish work). So which of these is your
"Actual % Complete?"
