Do you by any chance have Adobe Acrobat installed on the computer? If so,
check the Word Startup folder (in Win2K/XP defaults to C:\Documents and
Settings\<your user name>\Application Date\Microsoft\Word\Startup). If there
is anything there, close Word, move the files then restart Word. If that
doesn't work, close Word search for and rename any normal.dot files to
something like Normalold.dot and restart Word.

Hope this helps,
Nick

Well screw you Jezebel. I'm trying to help. Why do you have to be so rude? If
you have a better idea, just post it, don't try to start something. Even
Microsoft says it could be from Acrobat and most cases of this problem I have
sen were just that.

TWQ123, please post the resolution no matter what it is.

Thanks.

Before this gets any uglier, how about we agree to rephrase the
previous replies with following?

Jezebel: "If Nick's suggestion isn't the problem then take a look at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm for
additional troubleshooting steps."

Nick's reply to Jezebel: "I thought the purpose of the newsgroup was
to help support each other. I'm sure the majority of those who come
here seeking help appreciate any advice they receive providing it will
not cause damage. Suggestions that can cause damage is what I consider
'insensible advice'. And FWIW I based my advice on the following KB
articles..."

Trying to help is fine Nick. The trouble is, this forum gets seriously
cludged up by people posting replies outside their area of competence, as in
this case.

In all due respect, I didn't think Nick's reply was that far off the
mark. "Hidden module" means the error is in a global template and
Adobe's PDFMaker add-in has an AutoExec macro. The only thing I see
that Nick could have added to his reply is Adobe tends to use the
Office Startup folder for the add-in instead of the Word Startup
folder.

He's demonstrated several times that he does research his answers
first and we all got our start in the newsgroups at some point.

Besides, this group has been getting so much traffic lately with the
addition of Microsoft's web interface calling this group "Word General
Questions" and linking to it from the Help Task Pane in Word that we
could use all the help we can get right now.
