Hi,

I have a user who is having problems connecting to project server through
project. They get the following error message:

Connection Failed:
SQLState: 01000
SQL Server Error 52
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionOpen
(CreateFile())
Connection Failed:
SQLState 08001
SQL Server Error: 52
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Client unable to establish connection

Project server is version 2003, Project is version 2003.

They have a firewall but it is disabled.

has anyone come across this? I have found 2 knowledge base articles on MS
site (555105 and 837653) however they do not match the error we receive.

Cheers for any help

Try these 2 things :

1) run the cliconfg tool from the command line and create an alias that
point to your sql server and use TCP/IP as the network library.

2) edit the hosts file in your client PC to include a DNS record like this :

IPOfYourSQLServer SqlServerHostName

Eg : 10.10.1.1 MySqlServer

3) As an alternative to No 2, you can add the DNS to the DNS server in
your company. In doing so, you dont need to do No 2 for every client.

Hi,

Following from this we tried installing the latest version of MDAC (2.8)
however this has similarly caused a connection failure ---

Connection Failed:
SQL State '28000'
SQL Server Error 18456
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Driver][SQL Server]Login Failed for user
"MSPojectUser1395"

We want to try the earlier version of MDAC (2.7 SP1) however I cannot find
any unistall utility for MDAC and trying to install the old version doesnt
work.

Does anyone know of an uninstall utility for MDAC??

Cheers for any help

Lee
