consecutive dots???

In word 2000, every time I type more than 3 consecutive "dots" or "periods" they automatically form into groups of 3, and when I backspace, it wipes out 3 dots at once. I don't know why it does this, or how to type more than 3 dots in a row without this happening. Please tell me how to get around this. Thank You in advance.

Hi Randy,
have a look at your autocorrect options.
There is a letter, that consists of three points.
Every time, autocorrect detects three letters like "...",
it replaces them with the one letter "…" Asc(133).

In other words, Randy, look in your AutoCorrect Options,
and simply delete the AutoCorrect entry for ...

You have received answers that tell you how to remove the ellipsis
AutoCorrect entry, but what we should probably address is *why* you're
typing all those periods. If you are trying to create a period leader, there
is a much better way to do it. Set your tab as usual, then give it a period
leader using the Format | Tabs dialog.
