From XP Pro Outlook 2003 to Vista 64 Ultimate Outlook 2007
I cannot figure out how to "enable 32 bit apps" The pst file from the old
computer says access not allowed.
Thanks

I posted this as a followup from 1/18 and a new one here today.

How did you migrate the pst? Do you have read access to it?

In control panel, choose the classic view option - then you should see the
32 bit control panel option.

I get the message "file access is denied" no permissions.
The one is going from XP Pro 32 Outlook 2003 to Vista Ultimate 64 Outlook
2007
Tony
I upgraded before, but when I used windows easy transfer to go from 2007 on
one Vista machine to another, it was FLAWLESS (except for the fax profile)

WET can cause more problems then it solves, so you were lucky if it worked
ok.

how did you transfer the pst to the new machine?

At the direction of Russ and some ME and Slipstick procedures, I copied it
to a flash drive and put in on the new machine's hard drive (in a different
than standard location) and tried to open it. I also tried from the 32 bit
control panel and got the same error.
Tony
I think I was lucky on the OTHER machine with WET because it was same OS 64
bit to same version of Outlook.

The Windows Easy Transfer wizard never handles Outlook data well. First,
check the read-only attribute for the PST. If it's not set, then you'll
need to take ownership of the file before Outlook will be able to open it.
You'll also need to createa new mail profile because WET always screws that
up.

OK I am getting there, opened the pst from the flash drive and using the
"reconnect scenario" Wish me luck.
Tony

T

Tony Linguini

Well, I have it working but with one problem and one concern:
The problem is I cannot access the pst unless I disable UAC.
The concern is the file type says Outlook 97-2002 not 2007 unicode.
Tony

T

OK That did it, I must have not opened the right file the first time, thank
GoD I had the copy. It now seems to be all in place. Thank all of you for
the help.
