If a file can be printed a pdf can be produced from it. You don't convert a
file to pdf, rather you create a pdf from a file. The original remains
unchanged. Adobe Acrobat Distiller is the most expensive, but also the most
recommended if you are making a pdf file to send to a commercial printer. If
you just need a pdf file for sending to someone else, there are numerous
choices. PDF995 from pdf995.com is free and works quite well for me.
