From MS works you have the option to save a document as either a works
document (wps), Word document (doc), WordPerfect document, text file,
or RTF file. Word will open any but the Works file.

You need the appropriate filter for the Works version used to save the
document. Most of them are linked from the downloads page of my web site.
The rest are included with Word.
