convert date to month

I am trying to convert date to month value, but I do not know how. any help
thank you

Hi

With date (p.e. TODAY()) in cell, format it as custom
1) "mm" - 05 is returned
2) "m" - 5 is returned
3) "mmm" - "May" is returned
4) "mmmm" - also "May" is returned, but there will be difference with p.e.
"January" vs. "Jan"
Formulas:
=MONTH(TODAY()) - 5 is returned, or 05 is returned when cell with
formula is formatted as "00"
=TEXT(TODAY,"m") - "5" is returned
=TEXT(TODAY,"mm") - "05" is returned
=TEXT(TODAY,"mmm") - "May" is returned
=TEXT(TODAY,"mmmm") - "May" is returned
