Converting '97 to 2000, 2002, and/or 2003

Our office has Access '97. Our IT Department is upgrading
our Access to 2003, however, they state that 2003 is NOT
compatible with '97 and will NOT convert from '97. Per
our IT Dept., we have been advised to purchase an Access
2000 upgrade (which is no longer available), then a 2003
upgrade, so that when 2003 is installed, we will be able
to use our documents.
This does not seem right to me.

Does anyone know:
1. Is '97 convertible to 2003? if not,
2. Is '97 convertible to 2002? if not,
3. Is 2000 the only way to make this work?

97 will convert to 2002. Not sure about 97 to 2003, but I am sure those who
have been testing/trying 2003 will chime in.

When you open an A97 .mdb in A2003 you are prompted to convert it to A2003.
The file format is A2000 which is standard for A2000, A2002 and A2003.
Each newer version can use its current format or the previous versions back
to A2000.
