Converting msaccess dates from 10/19/06 to October 19, 2006 in mer

I use word 2000 and access 2000. When I merge in Word an access file, the
date from access appears as 10/19/06 when I want the spelled out version. Any
suggestions on how to convert. Which is easier, converting from access or
word.
