Converting word document to .txt

Hi

I am using Word 2003. When I am trying to convert document to .txt format, some symbols ( ?? ) are adding at the end of the document. Your help will be highly appretiated.

What are the funny symbols? Did you use the "Save as *.txt" filter?
What encoding did you choose (Windows, MS-DOS, or other)? Did you insert
Line breaks? How did you chose to end lines? Did you allow character
substitution?
