correct the text

Hello
I am using office xp , recently I have a typing problem , when I am
typing a word that some letters of that is incorrect, I select the
wrong part of word and then I am typing the correct letters, but the
wrong part of word don't delete ! and the correct letters are typing
next to the incorrect ones, how can I solve my problem?

Look up "overstrike mode" and "insert mode" in the Help.

You have mistakenly pressed the Insert key, which has turned on Insert mode.

Ummmm... Not so sure, John - Sounds more like Tools> Options> Edit needs to
have the "Typing replaces selection" check restored, non?:)

my help (mac office word 2008) don't find anything for these terms.
in word 2004 you could toggle the over strike mode with the OVR button
in the bottom status bar of a word window.
in word 2008 I found the setting in the preferences, editing..and it's
now called overtype.
