It didn't break it, bad phrasing on my part, it works perfectly fine. But
apparently if you do a clean install of Tiger, it doesn't install Stuffit,
you have to do it yourself.
CLEAN Install (i.e. Erase & Install) - maybe so. Here's how it is:
Both Jaguar (I think) and Panther (I know) included a version of
StuffitEngineShell.cfm in /Library/CFMSupport/ (that's the Library folder on
the root of your startup disk, not your user's nor in /System). In Jaguar I
think it was v7.0.0, in Panther it was 7.0.3. That's the one that wouldn't
work for Entourage 2004.
Entourage 2004 installed its own copy licensed from Aladdin (as it then
was), namely v7.0.4 on First Run, replacing the older version already there.
If you ever did an Erase & Install of Panther, you would have had to
re-install Office - or your own later than 7.0.3 paid version of Stuffit
Standard or Deluxe - to get the functionality back.
Now, it sounds as if maybe Tiger does not come with Stuffit Engine any
longer. (No deal with Allume, I guess.) So if you do an Erase & Install of
Tiger, you'd have to get the Stuffit Engine from somewhere else - namely a
later-than-7.0.3 paid version of Stuffit Standard or Deluxe (i.e. 8.0.x or
the current 9.0.x) - or else re-install Office 2004 and the updates to get
7.0.4 back.
If you did an Archive & Install, you should be able to find
StuffitEngineShell.cfm in Previous System 1/Library/CFMSupport/. Move it to
/Library/CFMSupport/ , relaunch Entourage, and Compression should work
again.
