Corrupt Files?

P

I apologize for asking this question, again... and, I promise to remember it
if you are so kind to provide me an ans, again... Thanks.

My FP 2000/v 4.0.2 hangs up during "Publish Web" on one of my webs at
"Listing Pages".... I'm assumming that it isn't my server service (Bizland)
as my other apps Publish just fine. I seem to remember me asking this q
awhle ago and somebody suggesting that I might have corrupted files and
pointed me to a site that repaired them... Can somebody point me in the
right direction, again... sorry....

Funny you mention that as I had tried to Publish just after I included a
huge PowerPoint presentation - FULL OF VIDS - but, it was taking so long to
download that I aborted the Publish run, and then removed the file from my
local copy and what part of it actually got to the server with a FTP
utility... I'm sure that large file had something to do with it...
However, I am at a loss as to where to go from here. I have thought of
deleting the server files and Publishing the whole web site, again... but,
that will take a week with all I have on it....

Thanks for your help,

Palmer

If you FTP'd the Power Point, it's now likely you have broken the FP
extensions and may have to reinstall them on the server. You'll know if you
try to Publish via http:// and nothing happens or you get prompted for
un/pw and nothing happens.

I apologize for the delay in responding to your kind efforts to help, Rob...
but, I had to take a week to attend a convention and they didn't have
internet connection there...

If you FTP'd the Power Point, it's now likely you have broken the FP
extensions and may have to reinstall them on the server.

I had called Bizland prior to asking for your assistance (and, after I had
removed the PP file w/ FTP) - to no avail. "Publish Web" still resulted in
getting past "Loggin On To Sever", but betting stuck forever on "Listing
Pages"....

You'll know if you
try to Publish via http:// and nothing happens or you get prompted for

Publish via http:// ???

Do you mean the "Publish Web" from FP?

Whether I select "Publish Changed Pages Only" or "Publish All Pages" - it
still hangs up on "Listing Pages"...

I swear I was at this exact place sometime before and somebody pointed me to
some sort of utility available online that fixed my corrupted FP files...
(Too soon old - too late scmart... as the old wise German would say. I
should have written it down... arg...)

Thanks again for any additional help you might give,

Palmer

Do you mean FrontPage Cleaner?

http://95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm

might help...but more'n likely you've wacked the extensions if you've used
ftp to publish the PP presentation.

Do you mean FrontPage Cleaner?

I don't think that was it, Rob.. However, I just downloaded FP Cleaner -
and, ran all the modules - and, it's still hanging up on "Listing Pages".

A side bit of info is that my other FP web site Publishes just fine... and,
I use Bizland for that one, too.

Still appreciative of any other ideas you might have...

The PP file may be too big... seems there's a brick wall at 1 meg file size
IIRC.

But, I've removed that PP file from both the server (w/ FTP) and my local FP
source area...

Rob, does MicroSoft have a fee based 800 number I could call and get all
this straightened out? I really need to get my web site updated, soon..

Rob, I don't know why - but, my server didn't post my last REsponce of a
couple days ago:

I thanked you for your assistance and reported that Bizland showed me how to
Re-install my FP extensions (which they said they had done several days
before) - so, I did. Even though I waited a half hour - it still wouldn't
Publish correctly... however, the next morning it ran just fine... Dunno...
Probably never wil.

But, thanks again....

yer welcome.
you probably broke the extensions when you ftp'd, then repairing them fixed
that...with some hosts there's a delay when you push the repair button (?)
