Cost Question

António

Hi!

Sorry if I'm posting a silly question, I'm a Project newbie. Excuse about my
poor english too.

I would like to know how to insert a cost per hour and not per use. For
instance some machines have a cost per hour, as they're rented.

Thanks!

Enter that information in the Std. Rate column in the Resource Sheet view.
Hope this helps.

Thank you.

I'm sorry that wasn't very useful, because the Std. Rate is a cost per hour
only if we are talking about a work resource. If we're dealing with a
material resource, the Std. Rate is a cost per unit.

So, is it possible for the Std. Rate to be a cost per hour per unit, if we
have a material resource?

Thank you again.

Oops, sorry. In my rush, I gave you half the answer. Here's how to do it:

1. In the Resource Sheet view, enter a name for the Material resource
2. In the Type column, select the Material item
3. Enter no value in the Material Label column
4. In the Std. Rate field, enter the cost for one hour of use of the
equipment
5. Apply the Gantt Chart view
6. Select a task and then click Window - Split to apply the Task Entry view
7. In the Task Form (lower pane), select the Material resource in the
Resource Name column
8. In the Units column, enter "1/h" (without the quotes)
9. Click the OK button

Based on the Duration that you estimated for the task, Microsoft Project
will then calculate the Cost based on the number of working hours over the
life of the task. Hope this helps.

António,

In MS Project, "material" resources stand for "consumable" resources, such
as concrete, bricks...
You have to declare your machines as "Work" resources.

Waoh !

Dale! What a wonderful trick! I didn't know it. You gave me a lot of ideas
to use it.
