I have a weekly excel report that has one column of utilization data for the
weekending I want stored in Access. I want to import this from excel rows
and columns into a database because there are some other reports that need to
be matched with this one and some analysis that would be easier in Access.
I can't figure out how to do the imports? I can import the data rows into
fields in the database except for the column name. The name for the column
of figures is the weekending date not the name of the field. So I guess by
mapping the field names to be imported into tables I will just do it by the
order of the field not by the field name. But I need some kind of a
calculated field that will be the date of the import in Access. It should
really be the date of the report to be exact but how do I get that into
Access from Excel?
So then I will have all these imported tables for each weekending. The
second problem is how to combine the tables into one? I need the columns of
weekending data for each week. How do I structure the table to put all the
imported tables into so that I see weekendings across the top with a label?
Is this like a cross tab? It isn't a calculated field or is it a pivot table?
Also for each new weekending there could be some additional rows in the
bottom. So excel is just a snapshot and I want all these spreadsheets
combined into a table.
thanks for your help.
