Creating a copy of the production instance onto a training instance

Hello everyone,

We have setup a small project server installation. Since it seems to be
pretty easy to create new instances in project server 2007, we would like to
setup and instance for training. We have gone ahead and uploaded project
plans and edited the security permissions, we would now like to make a copy
of this and create a training instance. I know that in PS 2003 we could just
copy over the database onto the database that is created while creating the
new instance. I just wanted to know if we could do the same thing with PS
2007 or if there is another way of doing this.

Thanks
Dave

You certainly can copy the 4 x Project Server DB's over those created for a
new instance. There are some additional steps you'll need to undertake after
the copy such as

Configure cube build settings to point to different database
I suggest you disabled SMTP Alters so as no to confuse staff
Delete links to WSS sites as they will point to the production sites. To
bring these across requires additional tasks.

Thanks for that Paul. It would be nice if you could elaborate on what steps
would be required to bring across the project workspaces. The sites are
stored in the WSS content database so I can't just copy that over. I could
use the stsadm tool to move individual sites but I see that being a bit of a
painful process. So is there an easier way of doing it.

Thanks,
Dave
