Does anyone know if this is possible when you are designing a form in Word

Yes, it is, but it requires VBA (a macro).

1. Macro questions should be directed to one of the word.vba groups
(beginners or general, depending on whether you have any experience)

2. On the mvps.org/word website you'll find information on how to get
information out of Excel using VBA. Familiarizing yourself with that should
be your first step.
