Creating a Master project when file is stored on WSS

Has anyone tried to create a master project when the files are stored on a
WSS site? We are getting the following error when we browse to the network
location that maps to the file:
You cannot use and Internet address here. Enter a path that points to a
location on your computer or on the network.

This file is located on our network. Please let me know if you have any
ideas so we can make this work.

I would suspect not. Master-sub file relationships still use the old DDE
technology I think(which is why they corrupt regularly unless you are
careful not to move or rename or over-write either file). DDE was developed
practically before the web use around, let alone WSS so I doubt it will
work.

Still, I haven't tried it so give it a go (sounds like you have).
