Creating a ToDo list

I am writing a functional spec for a software project. The document is
a work in progress. We will add sections as the design work unfolds.

I would like to be able to insert "ToDos" at various places in the
document and have a table generated at the top of the document showing
the title of each ToDo and the page number where it is -- just like a
table of contents.

I already have headings and a real table of contents so I need another
mechanism. I see that there is a Table of Figures and a Table of
Authorities. Is there some kind of general table that collects
user-defined styles, instead of heading styles?

Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks

LurfusMa,
You could generate two TOC's, one with only your heading styles. And another
one just with your custom made styles (To do's) In the second one the only
thing you have to remember is that your heading styles should be empty, just
remove the number that's in there, and put a number next to your custom made
style (click the options button on the TOC tab in the dialogue Index and
Toc ).

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that option. It seems to work fairly well.

It looks like the second toc will use the same TOCn styles. If I
change them, I change them for both tocs, right?

It's not a big problem. I was thinking of making the second toc show
up in red, but I can live without that.

Thanks a lot.

All TOCs in a document use the same TOC styles, but that doesn't mean you
can't have different formatting. Assuming you are using, say, TOC 1 through
TOC 3 in your main TOC, assign an outline level of 4 to your To Do's, and
you can then format TOC 4 any way you like.
