Creating new folder or moving messages to new folder

I'm trying to reduce the file size of my main *.pst file
by creating smaller files and moving files around. The
problem I'm having, in Outlook 2002 SP2, is that I cannot
create folders under the new pst and I can't move e-mail
there without crashing. Please help. Thank you.

Clear the Deleted Items folder and run scanpst.exe against the file(s)

I did that, and it still locks up when creating a new
folder or moving messages into it. Scanpst reported no
errors. Even on a brand new pst file it has this problem.

Run scandisk on the partition the pst-files are stored.
If this doesn't work try recreating your mail profile;
Control Panel-> Mail-> Show Profiles...
