Creating notes with pictures and explanations

Bob Weiner

I would like to create a notebook page for taking notes using pictures and
labels. There are two things I'd like that I cannot figure out how to do

1. Create different types of labels (ie. Title, Caption, Explanation...).
This would be similar to creating a style in Word.

2. Connect explanatory labels to the respective part in the drawing using
a curved, S-type arrow. Ideally, I'd like it to be a connector like in
Visio so that my text doesn't get garbled if I move something. Of course,
this would mean I would need to add connection points inside my images.

I am using ON 2007 for the first time.

Thanks, bob

1. OneNote doesn't support styles - you could do it manually or create in
Word and copy/paste.

2. The S-Type arrow isn't a big problem in ON2007 but there aren't any
connection points supported in OneNote so you can't really connect them so
they move together.

There are a couple of workarounds I can think of - including creating the
page, with the arrows, in Word then screen clipping that into OneNote, but
I'm not sure how well that will work for you.

I haven't found the S-type arrow; it is probably hiding right in front of my
face.

I'm currently "testing the waters" to find the value of one note. Screen
clipping, free form layout, and ease of moving information in and out of the
program are all attractive features. Working with the info once it is all
collected however, seems tough.

There needs to be methods of creating relationships between objects.
Connections would be one way. Containers which allows property inheritance
like the html <div> tag would also be useful. Defining types (something
analogous to css classes or Word styles) could solve a lot of problems.
Layout of the objects is also hard to manage without an alignment tool.
Currently, one note seems like a nice idea but not a very mature product.

Enough of my digression. Thank you for answering my questions. I
appreciate the help.

At the risk of starting a religious war I'd have to say that the connection
behavior really doesn't belong in ON. It's not intended to be a diagramming
tool like Visio is.

It sounds to me like you'd benefit more from a version of Visio that fully
supports the Tablet PC. Although to be fair, I haven't tried running Visio
on my TPC so it may work fine now.

You could then clip your finished diagrams to ON and annotate from there.

I don't think there is an 'S' curve in On 2007. You could manually draw one
but it wouldn't have arrowheads.
