Creating Publication to Edge of Page

R

Robyn

This is not a printer issue, someone else has setup a template before that
works. But I have tried to create a full page publication, with colour, pics
etc to edge of page, but even in print preview Publisher shows about .8cm of
white all around. How can I fix this? (have made sure that page setup is set
to 'full page')
Help!

It may not be a printer issue, but it is a printer driver/setup issue.
Go into File > Print > Properties (or File > Page Setup > Printer and
Paper > Properties) and look for "expanded print area" or "full bleed"
or "borderless" options. (The "Full Page" option in Page Setup just sets
Publisher to use a page size equal to the paper size, it doesn't
configure anything to do with the printer.)

Hi Ed,
I don't know if this helps, but I'm using Publisher 2003. I have followed
your instructions and there are no options with those words (ie. look for
"expanded print area" or "full bleed" or "borderless" options). The only
thing similar is in the file>page setup>printer and paper>properties>page
setup. Then under the drop down menu titled 'printing type', there are
options like 'fit to page' printing. I have tried this option also, and it
still doesnt go right to the edge in print preview.
Now I'm concerned that I can't even find those options that you mentioned.
Are you sure they're not somewhere else?
Robyn.

No, print area options are controlled by your printer (or its driver),
and not by Publisher. The only places to configure your printer driver
are in the locations I mentioned (both are effectively the same thing).

Not all printer drivers support edge-to-edge printing, neither do all
printers. Your statement that "someone else has set[ ]up a template that
works" suggested to me that they had done it for this printer; if that's
not the case, then you probably can't print borderless on your printer.
What printer are you using? If the template was set up for your printer,
you could try taking a look at the print setup within the template and
seeing whether anything is set differently.

I am looking for help. I installed Publisher 2003 yesterday and am unable to
print borderless. I upgraded from Publisher '97 and I was able to borderless
print without any problems. My printer is an HP 6540 and I checked for driver
updates but had the most recent installed. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Alexiss,
What you are wanting is called bleed. To create a bleed for your
publication, you must set the publication up to print on a sheet of paper
that’s bigger than the finished document. On your desktop printer and your
magazine is standard letter size, you would print it on tabloid paper (11†x
17â€). If you plan to have your magazine commercially printed to an
imagesetter you would use a specialized paper size such as
Letter.Extra (9.6†x 13.3â€).
