custom dictionary is not available

Something is wrong with Office 2008 for Mac or its update. Even
though I choose custom dictionary in preferences as the smart folks at
Microsoft tell us (do they try it themselves?), I get the same notice
every time. I even tried creating a new custom dictionary with the
same or different name, the announcement that "Custom Dictionary is
not available" pops up again and again. It worked before Microsoft
installed the update online. The help page does not even have custom
dictionary as topic. Please tell us what to do .. really what to do,
not just check the preferences.

Did you assign a language to your custom dictionary?

What is the language of your system, your keyboard layout, and the
default language you are using in Word? Also, what version OS?

I am having the exact same problem. The message pops up twice, in fact, every time I open Word. Very annoying.

If you have the "exact same problem" it should be resolved by the "exact
same solution":) If it isn't, there must be something *different*, so
please post as a new message providing complete details including version,
OS after you review the info here:

I need to know the OS, type of Mac and language you are using, to be able to
answer that question.

Find the custom dictionary in the Finder and drag it to the icon of Word
in the Dock to open it.
Make a modification (any modification) and then save and close the
dictionary.

Does it fix the problem??

To answer your questions: English language, QWERTY layout, English
default, OSX 10.5.2. So, what to do?
