Custom Fields - Importing

R

Rick

I have read the books, help files, etc. and can not find the answer...so here
goes.
I am running MSP 2003 Pro on my desktop and I am running a "learning test"
for myself. I created a project (call it A) which contains a number of tasks
with resources. I then created a resource pool file (from project A) that
has only resources, no tasks. With both files open I created a custom
resource text field in project A. The pool file was opened using the default
"read only".

Here is the question....how do I import this custom field into the resource
pool?
I tried the following (FYI):
1. In the pool file, I opened "Customize Fields", checked resources,
selected
type "Text" and then hit "Import Custom Field" button. Following
that I selected
project A and the custom field I wanted to import. Nothing happened.
2. Next, in the pool file, I tried renaming text1, selected "value
List" button and
tried to import the value list from the same project & field.
Again no joy.
3. Finally, from the project A file, I tried the "update resource pool"
button and
again no luck.
During one of these steps I actually lost the value list in project A. Only
by closing the file w/o a save did it reappear.

What or where did I go wrong?

Hi Rick

Open the pool file and the project you want to enter the field into

Open the organiser

Tools > organiser

Select the fields tab
Select the resource radio button

Select the two projects in the "Custom fields available in" fields at the
bottom of the dialog box

You can now copy the field to the target project

I hope this helps

Hi,

First, custom fields have no bearing with the pool-sharer relation.
Secondly, if you want to save anything in the pool better open it read-write
:))
Finally, Custom fields are exchanged between files through Tools, Organizer,
fields.
Hope this helps

Hello Rick,
The pool file must be in read/write mode of course. So open it first.
The "Import Custom Field" button imort only the content of athe field in
question. Not its name.
The Organizer is more efficient for that : Tools / Organizer...

Hope this helps,
