Custom Properties

Is there a way to access or create custom properties of a new shape on
the fly?

There are a couple of ways. for example; VBA or the shapesheet SETF
function. What are you trying to do?

I am in the beginning of trying to find a way to automate process flow
design. I have several shapes that will be put in a sheet and all will
have different data and rules for connections and flow. I want a way
to store all of these attributes with the shape.

Looks like your best route will be with code. There is a number of things
you can do with a shapesheet, but the variety of rules could be an issue.

The first thing to do is to quantify the rules and the parameters that you
may need to store in the shapesheet.

I'm not sure a Shapesheet will acheive what I want either. I want to
be able to associate data with a shape, such as company, name,
action... Not things pertaining to Visio itself, but data from a
database.

I know of only 2 CASE other tools that will do that for you and they aren't
Visio.
