Custom View

Joe

I must be missing something and hope someone can help. I want to create a
custom view. I do not want to change the Gantt chart view. When I create a
new view by copying the Gantt chart and create my own view name, then I
customize the view to what I want. But the Gantt chart view also changed.
Why?

Copying the Gantt Chart creates two views. Formats to it are independent.
Simply use the View menu to swap between them and make sure you know which
view is active before formatting it.

In Microsoft Project, a View is defined as follows:

View = Table + Filter + Group + Screen

When you create a custom View, you will generally want to create a custom
Table that meets your reporting needs. In addition, some Views may even
require a custom Filter or a custom Group. Therefore, we teach all our
clients to use the following 4-step process to create custom Views:

1. Select an existing Table or create a new Table
2. Select an existing Filter or create a new Filter
3. Select an existing Group or create a new Group
4. Create the new View using your desired Screen, along with your selected
Table, Filter, and Group

When creating a custom Table, it is usually easiest to copy an existing
Table that is close to what you want, to give it an original name, and then
to make modifications to that new custom Table. Same goes with creating a
custom Filter. So, in your situation, you should do at least the following:

1. Copy the task Entry table
2. Give it an original name
3. Modify the new Table to include the fields you want to see
4. Modify your new custom View by selecting your new custom Table

Hope this helps.
