Customised Fields - naming

How can I ensure a custom field eg Text1 retains its name that it was
originally given when it is added back in to a table?

You should actually rename the field instead of giving it a Label. Click
Tools - Customize - Fields, select the field in question, and then click the
Rename button. This is assuming you are using one of the later versions of
Microsoft Project. Hope this helps.

Steve,
If a field is customized it remains that way until changed by the user.
Simply removing a field from a view table does not "nix" that field. If
the field is added back to the view table, it will still have the
customized name.

Hope this helps.

Ah, but it does John. The "title" of the field (which you can change by
doubleclicking on the column header and setting the title) does get deleted
if the column is removed from a table. Renaming the field is the way to get
around this. The title is useful for changing col headings for
presentations.

Jack,
As usual you are right. I just didn't look closely enough at that
possibility. To verify my answer I used a file that had the custom
fields renamed and I assumed that is what Steve had also. Bad assumption.
