cyclic redundancy check when deleting trash

Manaanaan

Hi there - I recently deleted several hundred messages from the trash folder.
The final 9 messages couldn't be deleted, nor could they be opened. Where the
email should display, it showed the message, "The item can't be displayed in
the reading pane. Open the item to read its contents."

After trying to delete the email, I got the error message "The file
Outlook.pst could not be accessed. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)".

Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

Close Outlook completely, then run scanpst.exe against your .pst file. Run
it until there are no more errors.

Thanks for the reply, Milly.
When I tried the scanpst.exe, the message was to chkdsk first, which I did.
Then I used the scanpst.exe on the outlook.pst file, and the outlook.pst file
changed to what looks like a DOS file and disappeared. I subsequently
reloaded the outlook.pst file again, but the problem remains. Any other
thoughts appreciated.

Hi there - for some unknown (to me) reason, I just tried and successfully
cleared those messages from my Trash folder. Thanks whoever. Back to normal.

CRC problems point to disk issues. You'd do well to run CHKDSK and
thoroughly test your drive.
