"Dangling" embedded objects within PowerPoint

I

Isa Muqattash

I am looking at the binary data for a PPT file. It seems like there really is
an embedded object inside the file. I am able to extract the embedded object
binary into its own file. However, when looking at the file in the PowerPoint
appilcation, I find no trace to this object. It is possible that PowerPoint
has left a "dangling" object that is no longer being used in a slide. This is
similar to Fast Save, but not quite. Turning off Fast Save and resaving does
not remove the embedded objects here.

I am unable to find any documentation on this. Does anyone know of a
sequence of steps that I can take to reproduce more samples with the same
nature of having "dangling" embedded objects? Unfortunately, due to
client-privilege, I am unable to share the original file that exhibits this
behavior.

Thanks guys for all the help.
Regards,
Isa Muqattash
