What is the root cell, the cell with validation.
To get longer names in the dropdown you have to widen the column

I should get slapped upside the head, but if you don't want to widen the
entire column you could "merge" several cells horizontally before setting your
DV in that merged cell.

Just be sure that cell will not be part of any range you need to copy, sort or
do similar operations upon.

Data validation + merged cells = increased likelihood of odd behaviour
(in the data validation dropdowns, not the user)

I should be good for at least two more smacks before consciousness begins to
dimish to comatose, which state I may have been in when posting the "merge the
cells" suggestion.
