Database Diagrams: Standard Version sufficient?

G

Georg Scholz

Dear all,

I'm searching a tool for creating Database relationship diagrams. - No code
generation required!
I wonder if Visio 2003 STANDARD will be sufficient for this task?

On the Visio homepage, MS says that the professional version, in contrast to
the standard version, is capable of "Database diagrams and reverse
engineering". So what exactly does this mean?

Any help is highly appreciated

reverse engineer refers to it's ability to connect to an
existing database and draw the diagram vs. allowing the
user to draw the diagram

OK, but will the Standard Version allow me to draw database diagrams at my
own?

To create and reverse-engineer Database diagrams, you would need Visio
2002/2003 Professional.
The Standard edition does not have that functionality.

If you also want to generate SQL statements, Database models and perform
semantic checking then you would require Visio 2002 Enterprise Architect
which ships with Visual Studio Enterprise Architect.

Thanks
