I have included a "yellow pages" page on the web site for
my church which lists various members by name and
profession. I have included a column for e mail
addresses or web site addresses. I can hyperlink the e
mail addresses to automatically generate an e mail, but
how can I hyperlink the web addresses to open in a web
browser. Right now, since they are in the same column as
the e mail addresses, they open up as e mail...

As most in here will tell you, I am not an expert. But my suggestion would
be to make a seperate email field, and a seperate webb field, that way you
could set the hyperlink to work. The only other way is to write your own asp
page to process the info. Am I wrong guys?

I think you'll need to separate e-mail and web addresses
into separate columns to start.

Then, your link to email is done by entering
username@serveraddress, which you've already done.

In the web column, entering the web addresses as
http://webaddress SHOULD provide you with a link & open
the correct browser.

Let me know if it works for you.

A design issue as you point out Farmer but code is not neccessarily
required. Its simple to put the following into a single 'column'
noting I have no idea what is really meant by the term column in this
context but consider a single table data cell could include this HTML...

<td>
mail: &nbsp;<a href="mailto:[email protected]>John Doe</a.>
&nbsp;&nbsp;
page: &nbsp;<a href="somepage.xxx" target="_blank">Listings</a>
</td>

The goal of design is clarity which communicates intent of purpose
and will always depend on circumstances. Farmer's suggestion to create
an additional column should also be considered.
