date changes in attachments

Hi,
When I receive a Word doc as an attachment, the date is
not the one the document was written (letter), but
changes everytime I open it, and takes the date of the
day. I work in OL XP and Win XP.

Can you please tell me how to do to keep the original
date?

Thanks a lot

This is a mistake made by the document creator. They have used a DATE field
where they should have a CREATEDATE. You can change it yourelf.

The document's creator used a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE
field. This field should be put in the original template if possible
(instead of inserting using the keyboard shortcut or header/footer toolbar
button).

In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then
change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9.
Unfortunately, this will still not reflect the date the document was created
by the person who sent you the document, only the date you saved it on your
hard drive. The person who sends you the document will have to either lock
the field or convert it to text before sending it if you are to get the
correct date.

See http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the
different kinds of datefields and how to format them.
