date code - can it be changed

I'm expecting the answer to be no, but I'm gonna try.

Someone created a gazillion letters over the last year, using a date code
and, as one would expect, it's putting in, today's date. Is there "any" way
to disable this so that it reflects the date that it was actually created.

I doubt that this can be done, but I'm really really hoping it can.
Thanks a bunch. Diana

It can be done.

The keyboard shortcut for Insert Date, and the icon on the header/footer
toolbar insert an automatically updating date field, {DATE}, so if either of
those were used in creating the doc, you get date changes.

To fix old docs, select the field, toggle field codes on the right-click
menu (or hit alt-F9), and change the DATE field to CREATEDATE.

For the future, you could make the {CREATEDATE} field into an AutoText entry
and assign it a shortcut.

Daiya ... are you saying that if I change that code in an existing document,
that it will display the original date, if it was say from six months ago -
because that's what I want. I'm thinking that it won't work that way, but
I'd be elated if I was wrong.

Yep. Change the field to createdate and it will show the date of creation.
It's been tested by me and others.

Daiya,
You were absolutely correct. Thank you sooooooooooo much. It worked
marvelously.
