Date field

Can anyone help.

I have a date field in a letter template that is a create date.
This template is on a network.

When a letter is created it puts the date, but when it is opened i
occasionally updates it to the current date, the templates and th
fields for automatically update are unchecked.

Is it something to do with the regional settings or maybe the norma
template on another machine overiding the field?

Any help would be appreciated as this is becoming a frustrating issue.

CREATEDATE fields always show the date the document was created. The only
mechanism for changing that date that I can think of would be if the
document was saved using save-as instead of merely save. This resets the
date to the date you 'save as'.
