I am using Word 2000. I've used help to get this but it did not give me what
i need. I would like to know what the results of the date formats listed
below would be:

M/D/YYYY (would this be say 12/7/2005?)
dddd,MMMM dd,yyyy (????)
MMMM d, yyyy (December 7, 2005?)
M/d/yy (12/7/05?)
yyyy-MM-dd (????)

NOTE: What i want is for an applicant to be able to put say, dates of
employment 11/00-3/05, just the month and year. formats listed above are the
only ones offered in the text form field options dialog box for date formats.

First thing is to know that you don't have to choose just the formats listed
in the dropdown. You can type in any format that makes sense, or choose one
from the dropdown and then modify it.

Then you need to know "what makes sense". The full list of format options is
in the Help topic about "Date-Time Picture (\@) field switch". I don't know
how you're supposed to know that text form fields and Date fields use the
same format pictures, but it's true.

For your specific request, the format you need is

MM/yy

So if someone types into the form field

November 23, 2000

or any other valid format for any date in that month, then as soon as they
tab out of the field it will change to

11/00

You'll have to use two separate form fields for the two dates, and just type
the dash as plain text between the fields. A single text form field could
hold the expression 11/00-3/05, but then there wouldn't be any way to get
Word to format it automatically.

Did you try them? It is really a lot more effective than asking. See
http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the different
kinds of datefields and how to format them.
