Date formats

I want to subtract 2 dates with the amount of days inbetween. When I enter
in the first date, the formula cell shows 1,000's of days to the negative,
then when I put in the second date, it shows the correct amount of days. I
want the formula field to be blank until the second date is entered....how do
I do that????

One more question, this is the setup:

a 1
b 2
c 3
a 4

I have a 3 box setup, and need an individual average for each, a-b-c number
thoughout the sheet. I cannot get it to work...
