I am also using XP Pro and those options are available in Windows Explorer.
It is also available in Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types. Glad to
hear you got it working and thanks for letting us know.

MS MVP - PowerPoint
Hi Michael,
I am using Windows XP Pro and the steps you suggest (click on Advanced,
change to Show option) are not available in File Explorer, Tools, Folder
Options, File Types.
Anyway I have found out what is the problem. Even though the file
association seemed to be right, ppt files were actually opened by powerpoint
viewer. I found this out when I put my cursor on a ppt file - it showed
powerpoint viewer file. To solve my problem I totally removed powerpoint
viewer.
Thanks for your help Michael and also thanks to Glen Millar.
Bye!

See if this works for you. In Windows Explorer, Click on Tools, Folder
Options, File Types, and scroll down until you reach PPT. Select it then
click on Advanced and change the Show option to Open and set as the
default.

Hey Mike,
When I right click on the filename the default program for the file is the
full version of PowerPoint. The problem is that the default action is
always
"show" and not "open". This problem is for all the ppt files in my
notebook!!
What to try next? Tks!
