Default Email Outlook 2003

For some reason office 2003 is losing my default account
for sending messages. I have 3 pop3 accounts and for some
reason if I write a message and simply click on send. The
message is moved to my outbox but never sent I have to
reopen the message pick a pop3 account by using the down
arrow by the send button and the message will. Send.
Under view accounts there is a account setup as the
default account. Any thoughts anyone?
