default file location clipart setting

Recently I set the 'Clipart pictures' default file location in Word
2002 (running Office 2000). Ever since, Powerpoint now relies on the
location I set in Word for its default directory location for 'Insert
Picture from File'. No longer does Powerpoint default to the most
recent directory; now it always starts with the Word clipart default.

I really want to reset the default Word clipart directory to a 'blank'
or empty setting, which is what prompted it to initiate with the most
recent folder. The File Locations dialog doesn't allow a blank or dot
(as in UNIX).

Any ideas for correcting this programming failure would be greatly
appreciated!

It's not a programming failure, as it does exactly what it was designed to
do.
Now, we'll turn our attention to the topic of design failures ... ;-)

It's obnoxious. I don't know what you can do about Word, but for PowerPoint
the simplest thing is to put a bunch of shortcuts to your real folders
inside My Pictures and let PPT take you there by default. Which it will.
Then it's just one click to the places you commonly keep your images.
