Up to Publisher 97 then Microsoft decided you most definitely had no need
whatsoever for that feature. Considering every other program has that
feature, it just proves what a *MASSIVE* bunch of dummies are in the
Publisher division and Microsoft generally. There is nobody there that
cares a damn about customers, only massive rip-off profits and monopolistic
abuse.

JL if you managed to have any basic knowledge about things past you could
comment. However, you are a dumb person that has never bothered doing any
research, and would be incapable of doing the basic homework required. JL
now learn to shut your jaws until you have necessary knowledge. JL

No! Imean like in Word. The add-in you mentioned is a joke
at best. Every time you open pulisher you have to resave
the "default" text box format. How hard good it be to have
the option like in Word?

I'm sorry, but you must not know how to use the add-in properly. Follow
the tutorial. You don't have to resave the default text box everytime.
You can set your settings in the registry (which is done by the add-in
for you) so that when you open a blank Publication, you click the default
button and your settings are there.
You should research before you make such comments.

Why is every one in this discussion group so mad? I made a
comment that may have been wrong but it did not deserve
your comments. I still do not understand Micrsofts
inability to make this an option. that said I will try
AGAIN the add-in which I have tried on at least two
occasions. After I close Publisher the settings are no
longer there until I create a text bos and resave.

How is everyone mad? We would just assume that you are the mad one because
you called something a joke, yet you had not gone through and effectively
learned how to use the add-in.
Note that there are 4 buttons on the new toolbar (which you can customize
to make it smaller by removing the text from each button, then dock to
your other toolbars). One button will SET your defaults. THEN one button
will SAVE your defaults to the registry. Then one button is used to load
those defaults when you open a new publication. And the last button is
the Text Box button you use to create text boxes (no longer would you use
the text box button on the object toolbar). Once you have made your preferences,
set them, and saved them, you should no longer need to worry about those
buttons. Now you will just have the LOAD button and the Text Box button
to use.
Also, one thing you may not have known is that the Publisher team assumed
that normal.pub was not really used back when they moved to Publisher 98.
However, I have attended some meetings with the Publisher team recently,
and they have heard loud and clear that the customer would like to see
this feature. The reason they know now is based on feedback from this newsgroup,
as well as when people look up DEFAULT font/etc in the help box in Publisher
2003. This information is sent to the Publisher team, and they are seeing
this request over and over. It's on the wish list for Publisher 12. Let's
hope it makes it.
Until then, I have worked with the Publisher team, as well as Ed Bennett
to create this Add-In that helps set a default font for future blank publications.
The only extra step you need to take is to click the one "Load" button
when you are opened to a blank publication.

Forutunately for Serif, they understood what a community was long ago.
It took this long for MS to understand who/what a community was :-(. It
took competition for them to finally listen after years of watching competitors
such as Linux move in. --

You do not need to resave the default settings. You merely have to load them
from the registry. That is so that you do not automatically get the
settings - if you want, you can return to Publisher's defaults.
And to answer your question, it would be more difficult to have an option
like in Word, as Publisher 2002 and 2003 do not support a normal document
