default printer keeps changing

We just got Office 2003. If I print in Word to my default printer, then
print another document to another printer, it automatically resets the
default printer to the 2nd printer. Very annoying. It doesn't seem to
retain the default printer that I chose in the control panel, just
unilaterally reassigns. Can I lock that or something?

Is it resetting the default printer in Windows (in Windows XP, check by
going to Start|Printers and Faxes), or is it simply that Word is using the
last printer used? If it's the latter, I believe that's how Word is supposed
to work.
